Update

I know, I know, it's been awhile! HOWEVER, while I was away, I graduated from my residential decorating program so i'm officially a decorator and i've been working on starting my own business. Needless to say, i've been quite busy. Anyways, I thought i'd share with you a project that i'm currently working on. It's a 1910 house that is getting flipped so I wanted to keep it fairly traditional and neutral for future buyers.

PS. While I was on my little hiatus I finished my website jenniferknightinteriors.com

Pinspiration: Outdoor Living

To celebrate the fact that it's finally summer, I thought i'd share a little outdoor living pinspiration. I've been spending every possible minute outside because the weather has been glorious lately!

P.S- we bought these at Target for our patio and they make the patio look so magical at night.

Anyways enjoy the inspiration and go enjoy the beautiful weather!

Bedroom Redesign Epiphany

Guyssss, i've been in the midst of trying to redesign my bedroom for months now and I finally had a design epiphany. I was debating redoing my room in mint green or icy blue but nothing felt right. If you walk into my room you'll see different colour swatches all over the walls, it's like living in a giant easter egg. Anyways, I went down to Fargo this weekend and came across Nate Berkus fabrics at Jo- Ann fabrics and I had my ah ha moment. THANK YOU NATE BERKUS.

Another thing I want to do to my room is find better storage solutions. My room is quite tiny so i'd like to add a bookshelf to the wall to create more floor space. I also want to downsize my current standing book shelf.

Last but definitely not least, my desk chair needs to be reupholstered. I'm definitely thinking of going with a dark blue. I fell in love with this chair from Target:

Anyways, this is just a bit of my design plan. I can't wait until I actually start painting.

The Lil' House's Lighting Guide: Chandeliers

I love a classic chandelier, especially when they're in unexpected places like the bedroom or bathroom. However, there are so many new modern types of chandeliers that are gorgeous too. So folks, it's time for part three of The Lil' House's Lighting Guide. I may have the song 'Chandelier' by Sia on repeat right now, and I expect you to be listening to it too when you read this. I'm gonna swing from the CHANDELIERRRRRRR....

Current Crush: Velvet Arm Chairs

My current desk chair is a chair that was passed down to me from my uncle, who inherited it from my grandparents. I love the chair but the fabric is truly ugly (my uncle had it reupholstered in an ugly blue 90's fabric when he inherited it). Lately i've been thinking about getting it professionally reupholstered so of course i've been browsing Pinterest for inspiration. While I love bold trendy patterned fabrics, I feel like I should go with a solid fabric that will stand the test of time. So of course, i've gravitated towards velvet, because well ... what's more chic than a velvet armchair?

Here are a few velvet armchairs that make my heart swoon:

Hidden Gems

Do you ever come across a website and think "how come I didn't know about this sooner?" This has happened to me TWICE this week. I thought i'd share these gems that i've come across and a few of my favourite things from the sites... PS. I'm sure you guys know ALL about these sites already, i'm clearly super late to everything.

SITE 1- Land of Nod:

Can we talk about how adorable Land of Nod is? I don't even have children and I still want to buy EVERYTHING. I briefly looked at Land of Nod a few months ago but I really didn't absorb it's greatness then so this was a rediscovery.

I tried to order these sheets, however the shipping to Canada was pretty pricey (sad face).

Who doesn't need a donut rug?

I also LOVE these mod storage baskets:

Anyone who is having a baby should probably get this Little Golden Books Lion Banner, everything is just TOO cute.

SITE 2- Dot & Bo. What I love about this site is that you can shop different curated looks. Here are a few of my favourites from the site:

Click the pictures to be linked to the item!

How cool are these shelfs? Plus they come in a bunch of different colours.

I really love this book shelf, especially the colour of it.

And of course I can't resist a pink chair.

The Lil House's Lighting Guide: Wall Sconces

Happy Monday! Today I thought i'd brighten up your Monday (pun intended) by sharing part two of my lighting guide. Sconces are another diverse fixture. They are a great option for any room because they can be mounted anywhere. Trust me, they don't just belong in the bathroom!

Thrifter's Remorse

Do you ever come home from thrifting and immediately regret not buying something? Ya, me too.

Today I came across this cabinet for $12... it would have made a cute bookshelf or bar:

I decided to leave it because it had a chip missing and someone had scribbled on the top in pen. Also it was laminate. BUT when I got home I realized that I could have filled in the chip and painted it and it would have been beautiful... I'm thinking I could have done something inspired by this:

I also came across a HBC blanket, which is the most quintessential Canadian item. They were selling it for $199 which is about half off of the retail price. I don't like the idea of thrifting blankets but then I saw this on Pinterest when I got home:

I'm definitely regretting the decisions I made today. Thrifter's remorse is a real thing guys.

The Lil House's Lighting Guide: Ceiling Pendants

When it comes to ceiling lights, I love pendants (I also LOVE chandeliers, but we will save that for a later date). There is such a diverse selection of pendants out there. Copper and gold pendants seem to be making a huge comeback, as are globe pendants. I remember having the UGLIEST globe pendant in my house in the 90's, but these beauties are in a whole new league. As much as I love mid century inspired ones, I still love farmhouse style pendants... I feel like they never go out of style! Anyways, I thought i'd kick off my lighting guide with ceiling pendants, so enjoy!

High Five For Friday

Happy friday and happy first day of spring! The weather this week has been fantastic so i've been in an excellent mood all week. It's amazing not having to wear my winter boots and parka outside anymore!

1. This week I celebrated spring by going to my favourite diner for ice cream. Of course I had cookie dough and cookies and cream ice cream.

2. I went for my first run of the year this week. It's still a little wet outside so my runners were soaked by the time I got home, but that's okay... i'd pick puddles over snow banks any day.

3. It's been a 'treat yo self' kind of week. I decided to buy myself some tulips. I also scored this vase at Superstore for $5!

4. I also bought new glasses this week... i'm waiting for them to come in so I don't have any pictures!

5. I just got Marina and the Diamonds' new album so I'll probably spend the weekend listening to it. I love Electra Heart so i'm hoping this one is equally as good!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the first day of spring!
